Our Investing approach
 
The company's approach to investing is long term.  As a part of the goal setting during our financial planning sessions, we come up with a diversified investment portfolio that will take into consideration the time horizon, the risk tolerance, age, health as well as the objectives of each client.  In order to keep transaction expenses low, we use mainly passive investment vehicles.  Investing planning is an important part of financial planning, but not the only one and will be one of the links for an overall secure financial future. 
 

 

 

Investment Philosophy:
 
We split our investments into four different core groups, of which the percentage allocation will differ with every client.  These groups are:
  • Income generating funds and dividend paying stocks
  • Index funds from Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA) for international exposure as well as broad domestic market exposure
  • Individual stocks in growing or upcoming industries
  • Cash Reserve

We work with our clients also on alternative investments such as real estate, small business that generate good passive income cash flow among others.
We give feedback and reality checks on individual, self directed and often high risk individual stock investments.  The client will do his/her own investing with what we call their speculative money, which is a very small portion of a client's overall investable assets.

 

 

Depending on the clients assets, the following approaches are possible:
 
  • Focused Financial Planning, Inc. will do the actual investing using Ameritrade
  • Self-directed by the client and using Focused Financial Planning, Inc. as their coach
  • Using outside, professional money managers
